Surgery Consultation in Brooklyn, New York

By Dr. Robert Mikhli and Dr. Theodore Goff

Many treatments associated with dental extractions, implants and other oral surgery require a consultation with your surgeon at Precision Implant Care, located in Brooklyn, New York. To determine if you will benefit from such a procedure, you will have an initial consultation with an Dr. Robert Mikhli or Dr. Theodore Goff to explore your treatment options.

At your consultation, your surgeon will review and discuss your medical history and the specific details involved in your required surgical procedure.  The surgeon will conduct a visual examination, take a full intra-oral scan of your mouth and teeth, and they may take in-depth imaging, such as x-rays and/or a 3D dental scan (CBCT).  A CBCT is a valuable diagnostic tool that provides three-dimensional images that offer a realistic view of your oral anatomy. CBCT scans are the most advanced imaging technology available to dental professionals today.

In preparation for your first appointment, you will need to bring certain information and documents with you.

  • You will want to complete your new patient paperwork in advance.  This will save you time at your first visit.  This paperwork can be located under the "FOR PATIENTS" tab.

  • If you were referred by your dentist, you will want to have your referral available, if you have it.

  • If you take medication, please bring your list of medications to your visit.

  • If you want to take advantage of any dental insurance savings, bring your dental insurance card or the following information with you:

    • Name of insurance company

    • Billing address of your insurance company

    • The policy number and group number

    • The subscriber for your dental insurance and their social security number and date of birth

It is very important to note that patients who are minors (under age 18) must be accompanied to the consultation by a parent or legal guardian.

All of the requested information, in addition to the data gathered at the consultation, is necessary in planning your course of treatment. For example, Dr. Robert Mikhli or Dr. Theodore Goff will want to be aware of your medications to prevent any potentially negative interactions between medicines.

Dr. Robert Mikhli or Dr. Theodore Goff will also give you a list of instructions on preparing for the day of the surgery. Dr. Robert Mikhli or Dr. Theodore Goff may also give you any necessary post-surgery prescriptions at the consultation.

For many patients, the surgery consultation will not involve any invasive measures. In some cases, the surgery can be performed on the day of the consultation, however, more complex scenarios require more extensive planning.

Knowing what to expect at your surgery consultation will be an important first step in a smooth, successful path through surgery, to recovery and beyond.
